{"id":8070,"date":"2020-12-03T13:48:30","date_gmt":"2020-12-03T13:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xpon.ai\/?p=8070"},"modified":"2023-08-09T05:19:45","modified_gmt":"2023-08-09T05:19:45","slug":"conversion-tracking-in-google-analytics-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xpon.ai\/au\/resources\/conversion-tracking-in-google-analytics-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Conversion Tracking In Google Analytics 4"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There have been significant quality-of-life upgrades to conversion tracking in Google Analytics 4.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/10089681?hl=en\">GA4 introduces<\/a> a new model that incorporates automatic conversion tracking and a server-side events system for necessary conversions.<\/p>\n<p>Users will no longer have to fiddle around with Google Tag Manager to start tracking conversions throughout their website or application.<\/p>\n<p>Users can enable conversions in GA4 through these three options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Predefined conversions<\/li>\n<li>Events as conversions<\/li>\n<li>Creating custom events to track as conversions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Predefined Conversions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>GA4 automatically creates a set of predefined conversions based on the information gathered from the website or application.<\/p>\n<p>Google is really thinking of the user here, those who forget or don\u2019t know how to set up conversions already have conversion options available.<\/p>\n<p>This is thanks to <a href=\"https:\/\/xpon.ai\/resources\/ga4-whitepaper-ga4-and-privacy-first-measurement\/\">GA4\u2019s new enhanced measurement feature<\/a>. This set of automatically-generated conversions can\u2019t be deleted but can be toggled on\/off.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center ss-htmleditorfield-file image\" title=\"Conversions in GA4\" src=\"https:\/\/xpon.ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Conversions-1.jpg\" alt=\"A screenshot of the new conversion tab in Google Analytics 4\" width=\"1200\" height=\"581\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Events As Conversions<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The introduction of the event-based driven model means that Analytics will now track events rather than hits (events being page views, button clicks, user actions etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Under the \u201cAll Events\u201d tab, you have the option to easily toggle the events on and off to mark and unmark events as conversions.<\/p>\n<p>Keep in mind that in doing so, you will be tracking all conversions for that single event, meaning tracking every pageview, page click, download etc. across your website. We recommend creating custom events in order to have consistent conversion tracking.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center ss-htmleditorfield-file image\" title=\"Events\" src=\"https:\/\/xpon.ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Events-1.jpg\" alt=\"A screenshot of the new events tab in Google Analytics 4\" width=\"1200\" height=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>Creating Custom Events for Conversion Tracking<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Fear not, because Analytics enables users to create custom events without having to create tags through Google Tag Manager.<\/p>\n<p>This is ideal as, in more cases than not, users will need to track individual events rather than every event across the site.<\/p>\n<p>Here is a quick guide on how to create custom events in Google Analytics 4:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0Under the \u201cAll Events\u201d tab click \u201cCreate Event\u201d.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Assign an event name and configure the conditions for when to fire this new event.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"center ss-htmleditorfield-file image\" title=\"Creating Custom Events\" src=\"https:\/\/xpon.ai\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Custom-Events.gif\" alt=\"Gif on how to create a new event in Google Analytics 4\" width=\"1200\" height=\"584\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To complete the setup, go to the conversions report and click \u201cNew Conversion Event&#8221;.
